Large BGP Communities

Milestone: Early IANA BGP Path Attributes Code Allocation

Draft draft-ietf-idr-large-community has reached another milestone in its development into an RFC standard. IANA allocated BGP Path Attributes code 30 based on the overwhelming interest expressed in the Working Group adoption thread on the IDR mailing list. The Early IANA Allocation will speed up the development of running and interoperable code.

The early allocation process can be used when a code is needed for implementation and deployment experience prior to the publication of an RFC, which would normally trigger the code allocation.

Existing implementations are being updated to use the new officially assigned code 30, and future implementations will use the code from the beginning.
